Kuwait's First Private Television
I arrived at Alrai TV in Sept. 2004. With a couple of weeks left before launching there was a lot to do. Producing promos in a team of three, we established the channel's destinctive brand very quickly in Kuwait and the gulf region.
Since the start Alrai aimed to compete for the MBC and LBC viewership in the gulf, by appealing to the region's viewers culturaly. Speaking with a khaleeji accent and concentrating on region specific matters in it's programmes the channel has been well received.
Alrai has strong backing and promises to become one of the major players in the pan-Arab market. Alrai already produces a variety of quality programmes inhouse, and produces kuwaiti and Egyptian drama regularly.
New channels are setting up in Kuwait and It will be interesting to see how well these channels will do competing for viewers in a demographicly small country. Eventually these channels will start catering for the wider gulf market and especially saudi and egypt; the two demographic giants of the Arab world.
